Straw-fired power plant delivered with high-flying precision in Thisted

Rarely does a 90-tonne straw plant get to float 25 meters in the air. That was, however, the case at Thisted Varmeforsyning when they had two new straw plants delivered through the roof.

Verdo Energy Systems is responsible for the machinery contract for two 10MW straw plants for Thisted Varmeforsyning. It was a sight out of the ordinary upon delivery of the new facilities.

With the assistance of a 400-tonne mobile crane, the boiler's three heaviest components were elevated safely into the air and down through the roof of the newly constructed associated building. The components weighed 42 tons.

Inside the building, a team of fitters and welders stood ready to assemble the boilers. According to the project manager, Casper Juul Jensen from Verdo, the operation was carried out efficiently and precisely:

”It was impressive to watch the team elevate the components and assemble the boilers. We had incredible cooperation on site, which allowed us to carry out the task quickly and with the necessary care.”

It took a total of 11 hours to lift and assemble the two new straw boilers.

The next step in the process will be to build associated stairs and a footbridge around the boilers. Once the straw plant is fully operational, it will produce energy for Thisted Varmeforsyning's existing geothermal plant.
